Olympic gymnastics superstar Simone Biles has revealed that she suffered a serious medical emergency earlier this week, describing it as “one of the scariest experiences” of her life.

In a series of posts on Instagram Stories, the 29-year-old shared that she had spent the week recovering in bed after what she called a near-death experience. Biles did not disclose the nature of the medical issue but posted a photograph showing three hospital wristbands, along with images of flowers sent by family and friends.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

The most decorated gymnast in history added that the ordeal was made even more difficult because her husband, Jonathan Owens, was away in Indianapolis for practice commitments at the time.

“This was one of, if not the scariest, experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices,” she wrote.

Biles said she has been focused on recovery since the incident.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but shoutout to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited and/or sent flowers.”

Future Still Unclear

The revelation comes as questions continue to surround Biles’ competitive future.

The American legend owns 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals, making her the most decorated gymnast in history. However, she has yet to decide whether she will attempt to compete at the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Earlier this year, Biles admitted she remained undecided about a return to elite competition.

“Right now, I’m still focusing on healing physically and mentally because doing the Olympics kind of takes a toll on your body,” she said in April.

Speaking to CNN around the same time, Biles suggested her chances of competing in Los Angeles remained evenly balanced.

“I feel like we’re still at a 50-50,” she said. “We’re going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly.”

For now, though, competition appears to be the last thing on her mind as she continues recovering from a health scare that she says nearly cost her life.
