Samsung unveils AI-powered health features ahead of next-generation Galaxy watch launch

While rumours of the Galaxy Watch 9 series are in the air, said to roll out next month, Samsung has announced a major update to its Samsung Health platform. The update introduces a suite of AI-powered health and fitness features that will debut on the company’s next-generation Galaxy Watch lineup. The update, which begins rolling out on June 8, is designed to transform the smartwatch experience from passive health tracking to an AI-powered health coach.

According to Samsung, the new features use biometric data collected by Galaxy Watch devices and combine it with AI-powered insights to provide users with more personalised and actionable health recommendations. The company says the update represents a significant step toward its vision of building an AI-powered health ecosystem across Galaxy devices.

New health features focus on personalised wellness

One of the headline additions is a new feature called Vitals, which analyses five overnight biometric signals, including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen levels. Instead of overwhelming users with constant alerts, Samsung says the feature only sends notifications when it detects meaningful changes from an individual’s normal baseline.

The company has also introduced Heart Health Score, which builds on last year’s Vascular Load feature. The new score combines data related to sleep, stress, activity, and body composition into a single daily metric aimed at helping users better understand the habits affecting their long-term cardiovascular health.

For fitness enthusiasts, Samsung is adding Daily Cardio Load, a feature that measures accumulated cardiovascular strain during aerobic workouts and recommends training intensity and recovery periods. Another addition, Fitness Index, evaluates metrics such as heart rate, VO2 Max, and daily steps to provide tailored fitness goals and performance insights.

Samsung Health gets a new design and smarter features

Alongside the new health tools, Samsung has redesigned the Samsung Health app with five core categories: Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals. The updated home screen now displays AI-powered Energy Score insights and personalised wellness recommendations in a more streamlined layout.

Samsung is also improving existing features such as Antioxidant Index and AGEs Index. The Antioxidant Index now includes trend charts and historical data to help users understand the relationship between dietary choices and health outcomes. Meanwhile, the AGEs Index can automatically capture overnight measurements to build a long-term picture of how lifestyle habits affect the body over time.

Another interesting addition is the new Hearing Health feature. Using the Galaxy Watch, Samsung can monitor the level of ambient noise around the user and provide personalised insights about potential hearing risks. Whether you’re commuting through heavy traffic, working in a noisy environment, or listening to music at high volumes during a workout, the feature aims to help users better understand their exposure to loud sounds and take steps to protect their hearing over time.
