Renowned economist and market strategist Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as the new Executive Director (ED) for India at the World Bank. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his name. He will represent India for 3 years at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington. Mishra will replace the current executive director Parameswaran Iyer. Iyer’s tenure has been extended until Neelkanth Mishra takes over his post. What work will Mishra do for India in the World Bank? Mishra is the Chief Economist and Global Research Head of Axis Bank and is also a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the PM. Along with handling big responsibilities in the corporate sector, Mishra has also been very active in public policy and government committees. He is a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), which directly advises the government on economic and policy matters. Apart from this, he is also the part-time chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, the organization that manages Aadhaar. He is also serving as a part-time member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
