Flight operations at Munich Airport were suspended on Saturday after two pilots reported a suspected drone sighting near the airport, prompting authorities to temporarily close the runways as a precautionary measure.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident was reported shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time. Following the reports, security authorities coordinated with German air traffic control to assess the potential risk posed by the unidentified object.
“In coordination with German air traffic control, the security authorities then decided to close the runways,” the spokesperson said.
Authorities have not yet determined how long the suspension of flight operations will remain in place. “It is not possible to say how long the closure will last,” the spokesperson added.
