While Delhi’s roads remain synonymous with traffic nightmares, a viral social media post is reminding people that the city may already have one of the world’s most impressive urban transport systems.
A man who compared the Delhi Metro with networks in London and Singapore said the metro system deserves much more appreciation globally.
The viral post, shared on Instagram, came from Akshat Kharbanda who said he had travelled extensively across different countries and experienced several globally celebrated metro systems. However, according to him, Delhi Metro remains ‘underrated’.
In the video, Kharbanda explained that while people in India often complain about public infrastructure, the Delhi Metro stands out because of its scale, affordability, cleanliness, and connectivity.
He particularly highlighted how efficiently the network connects vast parts of Delhi-NCR while remaining accessible to millions of daily commuters at comparatively affordable prices. According to him, many international metro systems may appear visually impressive, but Delhi Metro performs exceptionally well when factors like crowd management, frequency, accessibility and operational scale are taken into account.

Kharbanda also pointed out how stations across the network remain relatively organised despite handling massive passenger footfall every single day. He compared this with transport systems in cities like London and Singapore, saying Delhi Metro deserves far more recognition globally for operating at such scale under far more challenging conditions.
The post quickly resonated online, especially among regular commuters who said the metro often becomes the only reliable part of daily life in the city. Many users agreed that despite overcrowding during rush hours, the system has transformed mobility in Delhi-NCR and drastically reduced travel time for lakhs of people.
Several commenters also mentioned how visitors from abroad are often surprised by the network’s cleanliness, women-only coaches, air-conditioned trains and digital ticketing systems.
At the same time, a few users pointed out that while Delhi Metro remains impressive, issues like overcrowding, long queues and peak-hour chaos still need improvement.
Still, for many online, the viral post reflected something Delhi residents rarely say loudly enough, that amid the city’s traffic, pollution and infrastructure complaints, the metro system continues to quietly function as one of India’s most successful public transport projects.
