Magnus Carlsen delivered yet another unforgettable confessional booth moment at the Norway Chess on Tuesday — this time by hilariously roasting his own play mid-match against Vincent Keymer.
Clearly frustrated during the second-round clash in Oslo, Carlsen walked into the tournament’s famous confessional booth, a feature unique to Norway Chess that has produced several viral moments over the years, and unleashed a brutally honest assessment of his performance.
The world No. 1 said his game “felt like a cow that was ashamed of its body” before joking that it was an “udder embarrassment.”
Carlsen added that nearly every move he made felt like a “positional mistake,” underlining just how uncomfortable he was at the board.
The classical game eventually ended in a draw, but it was far from clean chess. Both players made several errors during the encounter, with the biggest miss coming from Carlsen himself after he failed to spot a checkmating sequence that could have sealed victory.
The Norwegian looked visibly crushed afterward. He spent several moments hunched silently over his chair following the draw, still processing the missed opportunity.
Thankfully for Carlsen, the day ended on a slightly better note. In the Armageddon tiebreak that followed, he bounced back to defeat Keymer and salvage some pride after what had been another frustrating outing.
Still, it has been an unusually shaky start to the tournament for the five-time world champion. After losing to Alireza Firouzja in the opening round on Monday, Carlsen now finds himself second from bottom in the Open standings heading into Wednesday.

Firouzja, meanwhile, continued his impressive form by defeating R Praggnanandhaa in the only decisive classical game of round two, making it back-to-back victories for the French star.
Elsewhere, reigning world champion D Gukesh drew his classical game against Wesley So before losing the Armageddon clash.
In the women’s section, Divya Deshmukh continued her superb run by drawing against Koneru Humpy in classical play and then defeating her compatriot in Armageddon. Divya now sits as the highest-ranked Indian player in the women’s standings after two rounds.
