Indian National Arrested By ICE In Los Angeles Over Criminal Record, May Face Deportation

US immigration officials have arrested an Indian national in Los Angeles, according to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The arrested man, identified as Parminderpal Singh (26), may now face deportation proceedings.

Singh is currently being held in immigration detention while authorities process his possible removal from the country. ICE said Singh has an extensive criminal background that includes allegations of vehicle theft, grand theft, vandalism and trespassing. However, officials have not disclosed additional details regarding his immigration history or when his case may next appear before a court.

ICE Cites Theft, Vandalism Charges

“ICE Los Angeles arrested Parminderpal Singh, 26, of India, May 21. Singh’s criminal record includes vehicle theft, grand theft, trespassing, and vandalism. He is in ICE custody pending removal,” the agency said in a post on X.

The arrest is part of a broader push by US immigration authorities to target non-citizens accused or convicted of criminal offences. Over the years, several Indian nationals have been detained or placed in deportation proceedings for reasons ranging from criminal convictions to visa violations and unresolved immigration cases.

Several Indians Faced Similar ICE Action In Recent Years

One widely discussed case involved Subramanyam Vedam, who spent more than four decades in a Pennsylvania prison before his murder conviction was overturned. Soon after his release in 2025, ICE detained him over an old deportation order tied to a prior drug-related conviction. Vedam had lived in the United States since childhood and faced deportation to India.

Another case drew attention in 2026 when ICE detained Meenu Batra, a 53-year-old interpreter, during a work visit in Texas. Authorities cited a previous deportation order despite her holding legal work authorisation and humanitarian protections. She was later freed after legal intervention.

US authorities have also deported Indian nationals involved in financial crimes. In 2025, Angad Singh Chandhok was sent back to India after serving a prison sentence for his role in a tech-support scam targeting elderly Americans.
