US President Donald Trump said he will not attend the upcoming wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., citing government responsibilities and the need to remain in Washington during what he described as an important time for the country.

In a post on social media, Trump said he had wanted to be present for the occasion but would stay at the White House instead.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote.

The president added that he believed it was important to remain in Washington, D.C., “during this important period of time.”

Trump concluded the message by congratulating the couple, writing: “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”

The post comes amid heightened focus on US foreign policy and national security issues, including tensions involving Iran and ongoing diplomatic efforts in West Asia.

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son and a prominent figure in Republican politics, is set to marry Bettina Anderson. The relationship has attracted public attention in recent months, although details surrounding the wedding have largely remained private.

Trump’s decision to skip the family event underscores the political pressures facing the White House as multiple international and domestic issues continue to unfold.
