Falta Re-Polling LIVE: Re-poll has started from 7 am today in Phalta Assembly seat of West Bengal. The Election Commission has almost doubled the security arrangements for re-polling. Last month, voting here was canceled after allegations of large-scale tampering in EVMs. A senior Election Commission official said on Wednesday that now 8 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel (an entire section) will be deployed at each polling station. During the original voting held on April 29, only 4 soldiers (half section) were deployed at each booth.
There are a total of 285 polling stations in Phalta Assembly. The Election Commission has decided to deploy about 35 companies of central forces to ensure peaceful voting. The deployment of security forces will be almost double as compared to the previous elections. Apart from this, 30 quick response teams have been kept ready to take immediate action in case of any incident.
The political activity on Phalta seat increased further when on Tuesday TMC candidate Jahangir Khan announced not to contest in the re-polling to be held on Thursday, citing personal reasons. Trinamool Congress has called it not the party’s decision but their personal decision. On this seat, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Devangshu Panda against Jahangir Khan.
