A day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court declared the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque Complex in Dhar district a temple, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Saturday granted the Hindu community unrestricted access to the place for worship, an official said.
The High Court on Friday also quashed the ASI’s April 7, 2003, order, which had allowed Muslims to offer Friday prayers at the complex in the district.
As Bhojshala was a Centre of learning and research of Sanskrit language, grammar and literature besides being a temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati), the Hindu community shall have unrestricted access “in connection with the ancient practice of learning and worship of Goddess Saraswati,” said the ASI official, PTI reported.
Hindu Devotees Offer Prayers At Bhojshala Complex
Earlier in the day, Hindu devotees offered prayers and performed aarti at the complex. Devotees, along with office-bearers of the Bhoj Utsav Samiti, gathered at the premises, where Hanuman Chalisa was recited with full rituals.
After offering prayers, a Hindu devotee said, “We are delighted that we were able to have darshan, and there was no fee, unlike previous times. Now the entire Hindu society can conduct a pooja every day… We are elated after yesterday’s verdict, and all of us were crying and dancing with joy…”
‘We Will Worship In Bhojshala Complex’: Hindu Side Lawyer
Soon after the verdict, the lawyer representing the Hindu side had stated that they would start worshipping at the site. After the historic verdict, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said that their immediate priority was to start worshipping at the site along with preparing for further legal proceedings in the Supreme Court.
