US President Donald Trump has said that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second-highest leader of ISIS, has been killed in a joint military operation by the US and Nigeria. Trump said he was hiding in Africa.
Trump said in a social media post that on his instructions, American and Nigerian forces carried out a very complex and well-planned mission. According to Trump, American agencies were continuously getting information about his activities.
He said al-Minuki would no longer be able to plot to spread terror in Africa or target Americans. Trump also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation in this operation. However, there is currently no response from ISIS on Trump’s claim.
Nigeria has been in the news earlier also regarding Trump’s statements. Trump had alleged that Christians were being persecuted there, which was rejected by the Nigerian government. Last year, on Christmas Day, the US also attacked alleged Islamic targets in north-western Nigeria.
