- Gautam Adani: Energy & AI Are India’s National Priorities For 21st Century Freedom

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said that in today’s era, energy and intelligence are interconnected and should be seen as a national priority. Adani said this on India’s future needs at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 held in New Delhi on Monday.
Referring to the conflict in the Middle East, Adani said that energy security and digital security are no longer separate. Both of these are now the basis of the national power of a country. He said that a country which does not build its capacity in times of peace has to pay a heavy price in times of crisis.
Meaning of real freedom in the 21st century
Adani said at the summit that true freedom in the 21st century means owning the energy that lights our homes and controlling the intelligence (AI) that guides our minds.
He told that the two largest economies of the world like America and China have understood this deeply.
No need to be afraid of AI like western countries
Adani completely rejected claims that AI would replace workers or reduce human decisions. He said that India does not need to import ‘fear’ from western countries.
India should build AI as a force that increases productivity and generates new jobs instead of taking away opportunities.
Data center capacity expected to reach 75 GW
Giving the example of India’s mobile data revolution, Adani said that AI will also bring a similar boom, but the power consumption will be very high.
India’s data center capacity, which is expected to be 5 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, may increase to 75 GW by 2047. India has crossed the 500 GW installed power capacity mark by March 2026.
Adani Group’s $100 billion investment plan
Gautam Adani said that his group is working on three pillars for the digital future – energy, data centers and people.
Clean Energy: The group has promised an investment of 100 billion dollars i.e. Rs 9.52 lakh crore for energy transactions.
Sovereign Computing: There is also a plan to invest $100 billion to build data centers on Indian soil.
Adani Foundation: The group has earmarked a long-term investment of Rs 60,000 crore for education, health and skill development, a major portion of which will be spent on AI-based skilling.
The next war of independence will take place in labs and data centers.
Adani said that India should not rent the infrastructure of its intelligence future, but should build and run it on its own soil.
According to Adani, the next freedom fight will be fought not just on the borders, but in our grids, data centres, factories, classrooms, labs and our minds.
What is sovereign computing?
This means that a country’s data and the power to process it (compute) should be within the borders of that country, so that there can be no external interference.

India aims to increase its power capacity 4 times to 2,000 gigawatts (GW) by 2047.
