Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday was a moment of genuine La Liga history — one so rare that it has now happened only twice in nearly a century.
By beating their fiercest rivals at Camp Nou, Barcelona clinched the La Liga title — their 29th in history — directly against Real Madrid in a decisive Clasico showdown.
The fun part? Barcelona had done this before itself, all the way back in the 1931-32 season. That means 94 years passed before Spanish football witnessed another title-winning El Clasico between the two giants.
What makes the feat even more remarkable is that Real Madrid, despite all their domestic dominance over the decades, have never officially wrapped up a La Liga crown by defeating Barcelona in a title-clinching Clasico.
They have won countless decisive meetings and shaped numerous title races, but never in a match that mathematically sealed the championship against Barca themselves.
And Barcelona could hardly have scripted a sweeter way to repeat history.
How Barca Sealed The Deal
Needing only a draw to retain the title, Hansi Flick’s side instead tore into Madrid from the opening whistle.
Marcus Rashford set the tone after just eight minutes with a stunning free-kick that whipped past Thibaut Courtois and sent Camp Nou into chaos.
And before Madrid could regroup, Barcelona struck again. Dani Olmo carved open the defence with a slick piece of link-up play before Ferran Torres calmly slotted home to double the advantage.
From there, the contest barely resembled a title fight — Madrid looked emotionally drained, physically flat, and completely overwhelmed by Barcelona’s intensity.
The defeat also capped off a miserable week behind the scenes for Los Blancos, with reports of dressing-room tension and even a training-ground bust-up involving Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde dominating headlines before kickoff.
Kylian Mbappé’s absence only added to the sense of instability surrounding the club.
