In a major diplomatic development that could de-escalate long-standing tensions in West Asia, Pakistan is expected to receive Iran’s formal response to a United States-led peace proposal today. Exclusive diplomatic sources have told CNN-News18 that Tehran has been in “close coordination” with Islamabad regarding an amended agreement in principle, signalling a potential breakthrough in the high-stakes negotiations.
Top diplomatic sources reveal that Iran has completed an exhaustive review of the final US peace draft. The proposal was reportedly discussed at the highest levels of the Iranian establishment, including the Supreme Leader’s key advisers, top political figures, and senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders.
While the Iranian leadership has reportedly given a “green signal” to the draft, the agreement remains conditional. Pakistan is expected to receive the final response—including Tehran’s amended conditions—within the next 24 hours. These documents will be immediately shared with US technical experts who are currently stationed in Islamabad to facilitate the “to and fro” messaging between the two adversaries.
The peace process is being supported by a robust network of international mediators. Beyond Pakistan’s role as the primary conduit, countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Russia, and China are actively pushing for a final deal. Notably, the Iranian Foreign Minister recently assured his Chinese counterpart in Beijing of “progressive and meaningful negotiations” with Washington.
Despite the optimism, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has maintained a cautious public stance. A spokesperson stated that while Tehran is reviewing messages received via Pakistani mediators, they have “not yet reached a conclusion”, and no formal response has been handed to the American side as of Thursday evening.
If the United States accepts Iran’s amended conditions, a new round of direct peace talks is expected to commence shortly. Diplomatic insiders suggest that if the current momentum holds and the mediation remains seamless, a “result-oriented breakthrough” could occur within the next four to six days. Both Washington and Tehran appear closer to a deal than at any point in recent years, with Islamabad serving as the critical bridge for this potential “Amended Agreement”.
