Liquor manufacturing companies have demanded state governments to increase the prices of liquor, beer and wine. Companies say that the supply chain has been affected due to the ongoing war between Iran and America. Due to this, the cost of glass bottles, aluminum cans and packaging materials has increased significantly. Major organizations of the liquor industry, Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) and Brewers Association of India (BAI) have written letters to the states seeking permission to change the prices. BAI has suggested increasing prices by 15%-20% to compensate for the increase in input costs. BAI includes big companies like United Brewers, AB InBev and Carlsberg, which have about 85% share in the country’s beer market. Companies say that profits are continuously decreasing and costs have increased so much that now it is becoming difficult to do business at the old prices.
