Two blasts one after the other near Border Security Force (BSF) bases in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar have shaken the areas. One of these blasts took place very close to the BSF headquarters in the border state. Although no casualties have been reported so far, Punjab Police and central agencies have started investigation and security has been increased across the state.
The first blast took place near the BSF headquarters at BSF Chowk in Jalandhar, when a scooter parked in a crowded area exploded.
Eyewitnesses said that shortly after the blast, the scooter caught fire, due to which there was chaos in the area and people started running here and there to save their lives.
Second explosion after some time
A few hours after the incident, late Tuesday night Amritsar The second blast took place outside an army camp located near BSF bases in Khasa area. Based on initial suspicion, it is believed that an attacker riding a motorcycle had allegedly thrown a grenade at that place. This area is located at a distance of about 15 kilometers from Attari-Wagah International Border.
Who caused the explosion?
According to intelligence sources, it is believed that Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA) is behind both the attacks. This is a planned attack, which has been carried out by the Khalistani extremist group supported by Pakistan’s ISI. Sources said that Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, who is involved in terrorist activities, is also suspected to be behind both these blasts. Pakistani gangsters often work together with Khalistani groups.
SP Aditya Warrier of Amritsar Rural Police said that the blast took place outside the army camp between 10.30 pm and 11 pm. Police and army personnel were immediately sent to the spot. He said, “We are ascertaining the exact information. Forensic teams are also present at the spot and all aspects are being investigated.”
The moment of the blast was captured in the exclusive CCTV footage obtained by Aaj Tak from Jalandhar, in which flames were seen rising immediately and debris scattered on the road. A man standing near the scooter was seen running away immediately after the blast. Officials suspect that some of the scattered pieces may be parts of the scooter.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said that it is too early to reach any conclusion. He said, “A scooter parked here caught fire. We are still going to the spot and investigating the situation.” He further said that the scooter driver and another person are being interrogated, while CCTV footage of the area is being examined to ascertain the sequence of events.
According to the agency, the scooter driver has been identified as Gurpreet Singh (22). A relative told reporters that Gurpreet works as a delivery agent and comes to the area daily to deliver parcels. On Tuesday evening, when he reached near his parked scooter, it suddenly caught fire. The relative said that he immediately called his father and informed him about the incident.
Opposition parties have targeted the ruling AAP government over this incident. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring claimed that the explosion near BSF headquarters in Jalandhar is extremely worrying.
In a social media post, he said, “The blast in a delivery scooter in a crowded area reflects a serious breakdown of law and order. Punjab is a sensitive border state. Such incidents raise serious concerns about national security. Yet, while on one hand the AAP-led Punjab government is busy presenting its MLAs before the President, on the other hand, the BJP-led central government is equally disoriented and has failed in fulfilling its responsibility of ensuring security.” It is happening. People should get security, not political drama.”
Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, along with other senior officers, reached the spot to take stock of the situation. As part of the investigation, a forensic team as well as dog and bomb squad were deployed at the incident site.
