The court has reprimanded the Delhi Police for withdrawing the security of three women wrestlers who had filed a sexual harassment case against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

On Thursday, women wrestlers filed a petition in a Delhi court alleging that a wrestler was scheduled to testify in court on Friday but a day before the testimony, the Delhi Police withdrew his security.
The court heard this petition on priority basis and ordered Delhi Police to provide immediate security to the three wrestlers. The court also said in its interim order that the security of the women wrestlers should not be withdrawn till the next order of the court.
Testimony is to be given tomorrow
The case related to sexual harassment of female wrestlers is pending in Delhi Court. Many female wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat and her cousin Sangeeta had accused Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment, after which an FIR was registered against Brij Bhushan. A female wrestler is to testify in the court on 23 August in this case.
A day before this testimony, on Thursday, three main witnesses of the case and the victim wrestler filed a petition in the Delhi court. In this, the wrestlers said that just before their testimony, the Delhi Police has withdrawn their security.
Vinesh raised questions, Delhi Police denied
Haryana wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who led the movement against Brij Bhushan, posted about this on the social media platform X.
Vinesh wrote, ‘The Delhi Police has withdrawn the security of the women wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan in the court.’ Seeing the matter getting heated, the Delhi Police clarified and said that nothing like this happened.
Last hearing was held on 6 August
The last hearing in this case was held on August 6. During that time, the statement of a female police officer was recorded in the case registered against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The statement of a victim of this case was to be recorded on the same day, but she could not appear due to health reasons.
Then the court had recorded the statements of SI Rashmi related to the investigation of this case. Rashmi was cross-examined by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s lawyer Rajiv Mohan. Additional Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajput fixed the next hearing of the case on August 23.
Charge sheet under these sections in the case of adult wrestlers
In the case of 6 adult wrestlers, Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under sections 354, 354-A and D. A chargesheet has been filed against Vinod Tomar under sections 109, 354, 354 (A), 506.
5 important points of the charge sheet of the case of adult wrestlers
- The police have considered the wrestlers’ statement given before the magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC as the main basis of the charge sheet.
- Evidence of the presence of the accused has been found at the place where the adult wrestlers have alleged sexual abuse.
- The wrestlers have handed over 5 photographs to the police as evidence during the investigation. Apart from this, more digital evidence was also given, which has been submitted to the court in a pen drive.
- Statements of about 25 witnesses have been recorded in the charge sheet. 7 witnesses have supported the allegations of the victim adult wrestlers. The rest have spoken in favour of the accused. They will be cross examined during the trial.
- The police have asked the wrestling associations of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Indonesia to provide CCTV footage and photos of the places where the women wrestlers have accused Brij Bhushan of sexual abuse. These have not been found yet. Once these are found, the police will file a supplementary challan in the case.
