Netflix has released new posters for RAFAits upcoming documentary series on tennis great Rafael Nadal, ahead of its premiere on May 29. The first poster uses a minimalist visual of Nadal lying on the court after what appears to be a gruelling match, with the tagline, ‘A life beyond limits’.
A second poster shows Nadal in a close-up side profile, focusing on endurance, physical strain and willpower. Sharing it, Netflix used a quote from the two-time Olympic champion: ‘To reach the top, you have to go near the limit – @rafaelnadal. The documentary series RAFA premieres May 29.’
Directed by Oscar nominee Zachary Heinzerling, the four-part series follows the final year of Nadal’s career, particularly in 2024, when he was dealing with injuries, embraced fatherhood and decided to retire, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will include never-before-seen footage and new interviews with Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and John McEnroe, among others.
According to reports, RAFA is set to compete at the Primetime Emmys rather than the Sports Emmys. Netflix also plans to campaign for the series in several categories, including Best Documentary, Directing, Editing, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Score. The series is in Spanish, which also makes it the first primarily non-English language project to land a Best Documentary series Emmy nomination.
Nadal, 38, is a 22-time Grand Slam champion, with a record 14 of those titles coming on the Paris clay. The Spaniard, who won Olympic singles gold in Beijing in 2008 and doubles gold in Rio in 2016, retired in November 2024. He had a 112-4 win-loss record at Roland Garros, where he won his first title in 2005 and his last in 2022. His final appearance at the French Open came in 2024, when he lost in the first round to Alexander Zverev, with RAFA set to revisit that final phase of his career.
