US-Iran-Israel War LIVE: US President Donald Trump has said that it remains unclear whether the current ceasefire with Iran will be extended, even as he struck an optimistic note on ongoing negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said talks are progressing well and hinted that the next round of discussions could take place over the weekend in Islamabad. He added that Iran appears more willing to make concessions now, particularly on key issues like nuclear weaponscompared to just a few months ago.
Meanwhile, a 10-day ceasefire deal agreed between Lebanon and Israel took effect on Thursday (local time) (Friday 3:30 IST), after Washington announced the ceasefire, with Trump saying he was trying to set up the first-ever meeting between the leaders of the two countries.
Trump also said that he hopes militant group Hezbollah “acts nicely and well” during the 10-day ceasefire reached just hours earlier between Lebanon and Israel.
“I hope Hezbollah acts nicely and well during this important period of time,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform as he arrived for a speech in Las Vegas. “It will be (a) GREAT moment for them if they do. No more killing. Must finally have PEACE!”
