Governor Mukerram Unluer said that the attacker was an eighth grade student. He had reached school with five weapons and seven magazines in his bag. According to initial information, these weapons may belong to his former police officer father.

After the incident, police were deployed in the area and investigation was started. According to the governor, the attacker entered two classrooms inside the school, where fifth grade students were studying. He fired indiscriminately there. The condition of four of the injured is said to be critical and their operation is underway.

The Governor said, “The accused was surrounded inside the school during the operation. During this time he shot himself.” Investigation of the matter is ongoing. School shootings are very rare in Turkey, but these incidents that happened in two consecutive days have raised concerns about security.
