Till now the command of power in Bihar was in the hands of Nitish and there were two Deputy CMs from BJP, but with the change of leadership, the political equation of power has also changed. Keeping in view the political equation of Bihar, NDA has placed its leaders on the throne of power. The chair of the Chief Minister has been handed over to Samrat Chaudhary, who comes from the Koeri caste of OBC. Samrat Chaudhary has joined BJP through RJD and JDU.
Those who become Deputy CM from JDU quota Vijay Kumar Chaudhary He is close and trustworthy to former CM Nitish Kumar. Vijay Chaudhary comes from the Bhumihar caste, which is considered the most politically powerful among the upper castes of Bihar. Apart from this, Nitish Kumar has made Bijendra Prasad Yadav as Deputy CM, who comes from the Yadav caste which has the largest population of OBC.
In Bihar, NDA has tried to keep the two big OBC castes, Koeri and Yadav, together through its Trimurti, while in the front, there is a plan to maintain the political balance by giving a Deputy CM from the Bhumihar community. In this way, NDA has gambled on the three big castes of Bihar.
Yadav-Koeri and Bhumihar Combination
The politics of Bihar is limited to caste. After the Mandal Commission, the politics of Bihar has completely changed and has become OBC-centric instead of forward castes. Due to the way Lalu Yadav mobilized the OBC and Dalit castes, the dominance of the upper castes in the politics of Bihar was broken. Nitish Kumar gave the first blow to Lalu’s politics, when he created his own politics by separating Kurmi and Koeri from the politics of ‘Triveni’ (Yadav, Kurmi and Koeri) of Bihar.
Nitish created Luv-Kush politics in front of Lalu Yadav’s M-Y equation. He joined the politics of Kurmi and Koeri in ‘Kurmi Mahachetna Rally’ at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Lalu Yadav not only created the Luv-Kush equation against the Yadav vote bank but also started coalition politics with this equation, due to which the upper castes also came closer to Nitish. BJP was behind this, which did it very minutely. Now after Nitish’s removal from power, an effort has been made to try the same trick again.
To keep the political equation strong with the change of power in Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has been entrusted with the leadership of NDA. Nitish Kumar, who tried the Luv Kush equation for almost two decades, handed over the reins of power to Samrat Chaudhary, who comes from the Kushwaha community, and also appointed Bijendra Yadav and Vijay Chaudhary, who come from the Yadav community, as Deputy CMs. In this way, a strategy has been adopted to create equation of Koeri-Yadav and Bhumihar votes. In Bihar, this trio is being considered a bet to strengthen the Yadav-Koeri-Bhumihar equation.
NDA’s hit formula in politics
Nitish Kumar snatched power from RJD 20 years ago by creating the Kurmi-Koeri equation. Nitish had named it Luv-Kush formula. After Yadav, Kurmi and Koeri are the two biggest OBC castes in Bihar. Nitish comes from Kurmi caste while Samrat Chaudhary comes from Koeri community. The role of both these castes was very important in the victory of NDA in Bihar elections in 2025.
In Bihar, the population of Kurmi community is 2.5 percent while the population of Koeri community is five percent. This time, 24 MLAs from Koeri caste have won in the assembly elections while 14 MLAs from Kurmi caste have won. Koeri MLAs have won 5 from BJP, 11 from JDU, 1 from LJP, 2 from RLM and 5 from Grand Alliance. Kurmi MLAs have won two from BJP and 12 from JDU.
NDA got 71 percent votes from Kurmi-Koeri communities, considered the traditional base of Nitish Kumar, while NDA got 68 percent votes from different groups of backward castes. The support of these castes was less in the 2020 elections. In 2020, 66 percent Kurmi-Koeri and 58 percent remaining OBCs had voted less for NDA. Due to this, this time NDA got 5 percent more votes of Kurmi-Koeri and 10 percent more votes of other OBC castes.
Plan to give political injury to Lalu Yadav
BJP is keeping its special focus on OBC votes in Bihar. BJP has given message to Koeri community through Samrat Choudhary, while JDU has given message to Bhumihars and Yadavs through Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav in Bihar. Bhumihar voters too
NDA is considered traditional. That is why Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been made Deputy CM. He comes from Bhumihar community, which is a traditional voter of BJP. Through Vijay Chaudhary, JDU has played a gamble of giving a message not only to the Bhumihar community but also to the upper castes of Bihar.
Even though the population of Bhumihar community in Bihar is 2.86 percent, it is a very important factor politically. This time, 25 Bhumihar MLAs have won the elections, out of which 23 have won from NDA and 2 from RJD. 13 are from BJP, 7 from JDU and the rest are from other constituent parties. At the same time, 72 MLAs from upper castes have won.
In Bihar, the total votes of Rajputs, Brahmins and Bhumihars are close to 10 percent, but their political power is much more than the population. The voting pattern shows that almost the entire vote bank of the upper castes has united behind the NDA. That is why there is a strategy to keep the upper castes simple.
Yadav is the largest vote bank of OBC in Bihar, whose population is around 16 percent. Yadav is considered to be the most powerful caste of OBC. Lalu Yadav has ruled Bihar for 15 years with the help of Yadav votes, but now JDU is also keeping an eye on him, for which Bijendra Yadav has been made Deputy CM so that Tejashwi Yadav cannot break into any means.
Will the opposition be surprised by Nitish’s move?
Nitish Kumar along with Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav By choosing him for the equation of power, it also gave a strong equation of Kushwaha, Bhumihar and Yadav in the politics of Bihar. Nitish not only strengthened the foundation of the party by appointing two Deputy CMs but also honored his trusted and preferred colleagues.
By not giving the chair of JDU Deputy CM to any Kurmi but giving it to Vijendra Yadav who comes from Yadav community, he saved Yadav politics in Bihar from aggressive opposition.
