It wasn’t flawless. It wasn’t comfortable. But in the end, Rory McIlroy got it done… again.

The World No. 2 battled early jitters and a nervy finish to win The Masters on Sunday, securing his sixth major title and etching his name into Augusta folklore with back-to-back victories.

A Champion’s Rollercoaster

A double bogey at the fourth and a bogey at the sixth threatened to derail McIlroy’s charge early.

But, just like champions do, McIlroy responded emphatically.

Four birdies across the next seven holes steadied the ship, putting him back in control. Even then, Augusta had one final test waiting.

Wayward tee shots late in the round, including a wild drive on the 18th that sailed over the trees, nearly opened the door. But McIlroy scrambled brilliantly, salvaging a bogey to finish at 12-under-par 276, edging Scottie Scheffler by a single stroke.

With that, he joined legends like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo as one of the few to win consecutive Masters titles.

“I Just Can’t Believe It”

A year after ending his decade-long major drought and completing the Career Grand Slam, McIlroy doubled down.

“I just can’t believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket and… I get two in a row,” he said. “All of my perseverance at this golf tournament… has really started to pay off.”

Interestingly, Augusta chairman Fred Ridley helped him into the iconic green jacket: a role usually reserved for the previous champion.

More to Come?

At 36, McIlroy isn’t done.

“I certainly don’t want to stop here,” he said.

Given this form, Augusta might not have seen the last of him just yet.
