Political leaders across party lines paid heartfelt tributes to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, remembering her as an irreplaceable icon of Indian music.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with many other political leaders, on Sunday expressed deep grief over the passing of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, calling her an irreplaceable icon whose voice shaped generations of music lovers.

“The passing of India’s melody queen, Asha Bhosle ji, is extremely painful for me. As a playback singer, she lent her voice to thousands of films and music albums. Generations of Indians have listened to and hummed her songs. The echo of her sweet melodies will resonate forever,” Singh said.

“The demise of Asha Bhosle ji is an irreplaceable loss for the music world. In this hour of grief, my condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti!”

MAMATA BANERJEE RECALLS HER IMPACT BEYOND HINDI CINEMA

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was “profoundly saddened” by the demise of the legendary singer, highlighting her popularity across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

“Profoundly saddened by the demise of the great musical genius Asha Bhosle. She has been an inspiring and mesmerising singer who reigned over our hearts for generations.”

“She sang many Bengali songs too, and is incredibly popular in Bengal also. We could confer our highest civilian award ‘Bangabibhushan’ on her in 2018. My heartfelt condolences to her family and fraternity and millions of her fans all over the world,” Banerjee said.

ASHISH SHELAR SAYS LAST RITES WITH STATE HONOURS

State Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar said the country and Maharashtra are mourning the end of an era, underlining the global appeal of her music.

“Today, the entire country and Maharashtra are mourning the end of an era. Her work and her music were a source of joy not only for India but for the entire world,” Shelar said.

He added that members of the public will be able to pay their last respects at her residence in Lower Parel from 11 am to 3 pm, and her last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park crematorium at 4 pm with full state honours.

Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule posted X, “Asha Tai, What should I write? Everything is silent!! Should I write of mere consciousness or a divine melody? Should I write of Yayati’s youth granted to age and voice? You are extraordinary! The thrill of living and living with thrill vanished in an instant! Gone.”

LEADERS REMEMBER A VOICE THAT DEFINED GENERATIONS

Congress MP Varsha Eknath Gaikwad paid tribute to the legendary singer, recalling how her music shaped memories across different phases of life.

“Today the country lost one of its most memorable voices – a voice that resonated through the banter of our teenage and college days, the beauty and tenderness of our first love, the unbridled joy of all parties, the voice that made us laugh and cry – Asha Bhosle ji fare thee well. I pay my condolences to her family and friends and pray for the departed soul. There will never be another Asha tai,” she said.

CLP MLA Vijay Wadettiwar said the singer’s contribution to Indian music was unparalleled.

“The news of the demise of singer Asha Tai Bhosle, who reigned supreme over the seven notes and enriched the field of music with her sweet, melodious voice, is extremely heartbreaking.”

“Honored with numerous awards such as the Padma Vibhushan, Grammy, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and Maharashtra Bhushan, Asha Tai was the world-renowned voice of Indian music. The void created in the music world by her passing can never be filled. May her soul attain eternal peace – this is the prayer at the feet of the Lord. A heartfelt tribute!” he said.

Shiv Sena leader Ambadas Danve described her as a timeless icon of melody.

“The unbroken energy in the world of melodies and the shining star of Indian playback singing is ‘Asha Tai’! Whether it’s classical-style songs or rhythmic pop, Asha Bhosle has ruled the hearts of music lovers for over six decades with the magic of her voice – and will continue to do so. A grand salute to the versatility in her music! A heartfelt tribute,” he said.

ASHA BHOSLE PASSES AWAY

Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 in Mumbai.

Dr Pratit Samdani at Breach Candy Hospital confirmed her demise, stating that the veteran singer died due to multi-organ failure.

“Asha Bhosale breathed her last today in Breach Candy Hospital. She passed away due to multi-organ failure,” Dr Samdani said.

She had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening following extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.

Earlier, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had confirmed her hospitalisation through a social media post, requesting privacy for the family.

Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle went on to become one of the most celebrated playback singers in the world, recording thousands of songs across multiple Indian languages and genres.

Her extraordinary career earned her numerous honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, cementing her legacy as one of the most influential voices in Indian music history.

Her passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across political circles and the wider public, with tributes highlighting her unmatched contribution to Indian cinema and music.
