Marking the birthday of Anant Ambani, a new animal welfare initiative has been launched focusing on QR collars for cows and digital ID for community dogs. The pilot project, supported by Vantara Mumbai and led by Pawfriend.in, aims to improve safety, identification and tracking of animals across India.
With rising road accidents involving stray cattle and gaps in tracking community dogs, the initiative brings a tech-driven approach using QR codes and reflective collars.
The programme will begin with select regions, including mumbaiand could expand to multiple states in the future.
QR COLLARS FOR COW SAFETY
A key part of the initiative is the introduction of “Gau-Raksha Kavatch” reflective collars for cows.
These collars are designed to reduce road accidents, a growing issue in both urban and rural areas. The reflective material makes cows more visible at night, helping drivers spot them from a distance.
Each collar will also include a smart QR tag, allowing people to scan and access important details about the animal and its caretaker. This can improve response time during emergencies.
DIGITAL ID FOR COMMUNITY DOGS IN MUMBAI
In a major urban pilot, community dogs in Mumbai will receive QR-based digital identity cards.
This will be done in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
These “Aadhaar-style” IDs will store key information such as:
- Vaccination status
- Medical history
- Caretaker details
Citizens can simply scan the QR code to access this data, making it easier to manage stray dog populations and respond quickly in case of health or safety concerns.
SUPPORT FOR ANIMAL TRACKING AND MANAGEMENT
The system is expected to help in:
- Reuniting lost dogs with caretakers
- Supporting municipal animal management efforts
- Improving public safety through better tracking
By creating a structured identification system, authorities and citizens can work together more effectively.

“Akshay Ridlan reached out to us with this initiative. The same has been aaprised to Mr Anant Ambani and, under his guidance and support, this pilot project for Gaumata and community dogs will be performed in different states of our country,” says Brajesh Vishwakarma of the Vantara Mumbai team.
He added that on this special day of our leader’s birthday and his vision to help animals, with the help of these reflective collars, we can protect our Gaumata and dogs and also access their information through QR tags.
TECH MEETS ANIMAL WELFARE
This pilot project combines compassion with technology, using QR-based systems to improve animal safety and tracking.
If successful, it could be expanded across multiple states, creating safer conditions for animals while giving citizens and authorities better tools to respond in real time.
