Minerva Academy delivered a stunning performance to defeat Liverpool FC 6-0 in the Round of 16 of the MIC Cup in Bascara, Spain, advancing to the quarterfinals in the Under-15 category. The Indian side made a dream start, with Mohammed Azam Khan scoring as early as the second minute. Lisham Amarson Singh doubled the lead in the 11th minute, setting the tone for complete dominance.

Forward Wahengbam Raj Singh then took control of the match, scoring twice in quick succession in the 25th and 28th minutes. Beyond the scoreline, it was the manner of the performance that stood out. Minerva pressed aggressively from the start, disrupting Liverpool’s rhythm and forcing mistakes in dangerous areas. Their attacking play was sharp, characterised by quick passing, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing. Rather than sitting back defensively, Minerva controlled the tempo throughout, dictating play with confidence and composure.

Historic For Indian Football

This result is even more significant considering the stature of the MIC Cup, one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in world football. Held annually in Spain’s Costa Brava region, it regularly features top academies such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Manchester United.

Minerva’s success is built on strong foundations. Many players in this squad were part of the same core group that impressed in Europe last year, winning tournaments such as the Gothia Cup, Dana Cup, and Norway Cup. That experience was evident in their calm and mature display.

Why The Win Matters?

For Indian football, such a dominant win against a top European academy is rare. More than just the result, it was a complete and controlled performance, highlighting the growing potential and quality of young Indian players on the global stage.
