Security has been stepped up across Delhi ahead of religious processions and gatherings for Hanuman Jayanti. Police are closely monitoring sensitive routes and major temples, with a focus on preventing any disruption during the celebrations.

Authorities have advised that the number of participants in processions should not exceed 500. A complete ban has also been imposed on carrying any kind of weapons during these events, as part of precautionary measures to maintain order.

LeT terrorist’s arrest triggers alert

The heightened alert follows the arrest of LeT terrorist Shabbir Ahmed Lone by the Special Cell of Delhi Police three days ago. During interrogation, it was revealed that religious sites were among the intended targets.

Investigators found that the accused had surveyed several locations, including temples known for heavy footfall, and was attempting to rebuild a network to carry out attacks.

Security gaps identified

A security audit at the historic Gauri Shankar Temple revealed lapses in frisking, screening and surveillance systems. Following this, security arrangements at religious places have been further strengthened.

Increased surveillance

Based on intelligence inputs after the arrest, Delhi Police has intensified monitoring of temples and processions to prevent any threats and ensure law and order during the festivities.
