Police has got success in the case of murder of Punjabi origin youth Birinder Singh by shooting him on Highway-QEII located in Alberta state of Canada. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has arrested 18-year-old Jimmy Gassner in this case. According to RCMP, the accused, Jimmy Gassner, was arrested in Canoe Lake, Saskatchewan. He has been charged with second degree murder. He has been brought back to Alberta, where he will appear in court. Police believe that there were more than one person in the truck, whose search is on. In this incident that took place on March 14, 22-year-old Birinder was shot in the neck. He was sitting on his car. The attackers came in a truck and attacked him and then fled away. Birinder was accompanied by his colleagues, who took him to the hospital, but he died. Birinder had gone to Canada 3 years ago. Birinder Singh had gone to Canada 3 years ago and was living in Edmonton for the last 5 months. He used to work in construction there. Birinder was thinking of starting his own business. On March 14, Birinder was going to Banff for the first time with two of his childhood friends. Police said that around 2:50 pm Birinder was driving his Honda Civic car. Then a white pickup truck came next to his car. The two people riding the truck first gestured friendship towards Birinder. Death occurred due to bullet injury in the neck. The bullet hit Birinder’s neck. His friends regained control of the car and stopped it on the roadside and called the police for help, but Birinder died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. Police, who are investigating from the angle of head crime, said Jaskaran Sandhu, president of the Alberta chapter of the World Sikh Organization (WSO), said that the three youths in the car were turban-wearing. Police have indicated that they are also investigating from the angle of ‘hate crime’. Although the clear reason for the murder has not been revealed yet, the police have made it clear that the accused and the victim did not know each other before.
