Just when it seemed like Christian Horner might be plotting a return to the pit wall, an old ally has reportedly slammed the brakes hard.
And no, it’s not Toto Wolff this time.
In a twist straight out of the F1 soap opera, Adrian Newey has reportedly blocked Aston Martin F1 Team’s interest in bringing Horner in as team principal — effectively shutting the door on a reunion that once defined Red Bull’s dominance.
Trouble Brewing at Aston Martin
Let’s be honest, things aren’t exactly going to plan at Aston Martin.
Despite massive investment, cutting-edge infrastructure, and big-name arrivals like Newey, the team’s 2026 challenger has failed to deliver.
The AMR26 has struggled for pace and consistency, leaving owner Lawrence Stroll searching for answers and possibly a reset at the top.
That search has included exploring high-profile options for a new team principal. Horner’s name naturally surfaced, especially after reports of a recent meeting with Stroll.
But here’s where things get complicated.
Old Wounds, New Consequences
According to a report by LWOSNewey’s past fallout with Horner — a key factor behind his own departure from Red Bull Racing — still lingers.
And it’s proving decisive.
Despite stepping into a leadership role himself after replacing Cowell, Newey is believed to hold significant sway over Aston Martin’s direction. His reluctance to work with Horner again has effectively ruled the latter out of contention.
Instead, former Audi boss Jonathan Wheatley has emerged as Newey’s preferred candidate to lead the team.
Horner’s F1 Comeback Hits Another Roadblock
Horner, meanwhile, isn’t short on ambition. Since his Red Bull exit, he’s been actively exploring routes back into Formula 1, including buying a potential stake in Alpine F1 Team.
But even that path isn’t straightforward.
Reports suggest a consortium linked to Horner is eyeing a 24% stake in Alpine, currently held by Otro Capital. However, Renault Group is unlikely to relinquish control.
And to complicate matters further, Horner’s best rival, Toto Wolff, is reportedly fronting a rival, Mercedes-backed bid for the same slice.
In short, Horner’s comeback trail is getting crowded. I guess, something to do with karma, huh?
