A fresh development has emerged in Sunjay Kapur’s wealth inheritance case. According to documents accessed by CNN-News18the late businessman’s widow, Priya Kapur Sachdev, has submitted a reply contesting allegations made by his mother, Rani Kapur, regarding the formation of the RK Family Trust.
In her response, Priya Sachdev accused Rani Kapur of suppressing facts and asserted that the trust deed was executed voluntarily. She cited IPO filings and other publicly available documents to argue that Rani Kapur had prior knowledge of the trust arrangement. The filing also described Rani Kapur’s lawsuit as “frivolous, vexatious, and without cause of action,” adding that the “false narrative created by Rani Kapur is inconceivable,” according to submissions made before the Delhi High Court.
The dispute intensified earlier when Rani Kapur removed Priya Sachdev as the proposed trustee of the RK Family Trust, invoking Clause 8 of the trust deed, as revealed in a letter reviewed by CNN-News18.
RK Family Trust Dispute Intensifies
In January, Rani Kapur had filed a petition in the Delhi HC against Priya Sachdev and the children of her son’s ex-wife and actress Karisma Kapoor—Samaira and Kiaan—alleging that a “fraudulent family trust” had been created to strip her of her estate. She claimed she learned about the alleged fraud only after her son’s death in June 2025.
According to court filings cited by Live Law, Rani Kapur has described the RK Family Trust as illegal and unregistered, claiming her family legacy was diverted into it without her consent. She has also alleged that she was denied access to company information and that her email account may have been compromised, with another email ID used to make major changes to management and the trust structure.
The legal battle comes amid multiple disputes within the family over Sunjay Kapur’s assets and will. Karisma Kapoor’s children have also approached the Delhi HC seeking their share in their late father’s estate, alleging that Priya Sachdev forged the will. Meanwhile, Priya Sachdev has filed a criminal defamation case against her sister-in-law, Mandhira, over statements made in public forums and media appearances.
