Kanpur Man Kills Wife Over Suspected Affair, Later Turns Himself In

The man, identified as Sachin, 22, walked into the police station, crying, admitting that he had killed his wife and her body was lying at home wrapped in a blanket. He also said he considered running away before ultimately deciding to surrender to the cops, NDTV reported.

Sachin and his wife, Shweta, hailed from Mohanpur village in the Fatehpur district and had a court wedding as their families were against their marriage. They were living in a rented room in Kanpur, and Sachin began driving an auto-rickshaw to make a living.

However, Sachin suspected his wife of cheating and frequently questioned her about the money being deposited into her account. On the other hand, Shweta claimed the money was from her grandmother, but Sachin grew suspicious of the students living near their home.

How The Fight Escalated?

On Friday, Sachin lied to his wife, telling her that he was at a party with his friends and would not return home that night. When he unexpectedly returned, he reportedly found the room open and his wife with two young men from the neighbourhood.

After a heated argument between the two, the neighbours called the police, who took everyone to the station. The youngsters claimed that they were simply sitting at Sachin’s home. The police officers counselled the two and sent them home to resolve their issues, as per the NDTV report.

However, the argument escalated as Sachin claimed that Shweta threatened him, stating she would stay with the other men even if he killed her. In a fit of rage, he strangled her to death and fled to another area. He told the cops that he thought about running, but then realised that neither he nor his wife had anyone else, and so he came to the police station and surrendered.

The police took him into custody and rushed to the crime scene, from where they recovered Shweta’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
