President Donald Trump has warned that he could invoke a centuries-old law to deploy US troops in Minnesota. Trump said that “If Minnesota’s corrupt politicians do not follow the law and stop the insurrectionists from attacking ICE, I will invoke the Insurrection Act.

The Mutiny Act was first passed in 1792 and amended in 1871. This law allows the President to deploy military forces to control rebellion or unrest.

This statement of Trump has come after the increased presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis and two firing incidents. In the first incident, American citizen Renee Good was shot by an ICE agent, while in the second a Venezuelan citizen was injured.

Trump has been angry with Minnesota’s Democrat leaders for the past several weeks. He has also made comments like throwing the people of Somali origin living in the state out of the country, calling them garbage.

The Trump administration has already deployed about 3,000 officers to the Minneapolis area, patrolling with weapons, wearing military-like uniforms and masks.

After assuming power in 2025, Donald Trump has launched a strict campaign of arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants on a large scale. These agents are arresting thousands of people. Local people are considering it as racial discrimination and terror.

Protests are taking place day and night against these officers. Local people are whistling, beating drums and tambourines and raising slogans. On Wednesday night a large crowd gathered in the area where the Venezuelan citizen was shot. During this the officers released grenades and used tear gas.

After these incidents, the Trump administration and Minnesota leaders are accusing each other of inciting violence. Trump has already implemented immigration laws in Democrat-ruled cities by taking the National Guard under federal control. A similar action taken in Los Angeles was ruled unconstitutional by a judge in December.
