The Ayodhya administration has banned the delivery of non-vegetarian food items within a radius of 15 km of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, following complaints regarding the supply of non-veg food items in the periphery of Ayodhya town.

A warning has been issued to hotels and homestays that serve non-veg food items and alcoholic beverages. According to Ayodhya assistant food commissioner Manik Chandra Singh, “We received complaints that, despite a previously imposed ban, non-vegetarian food was being served to tourists through online orders. Following this, a ban was imposed on online non-vegetarian deliveries as well”, as quoted by Times of India.

He added that all hotels, shopkeepers and delivery companies have been informed of the ban order. “Continuous monitoring would be done by the administration to ensure compliance,” he said.

According to reports, over two dozen licensed liquor shops still continue to operate on the Ram Path despite a motion adopted by the municipal corporation last May to ban the sale and supply of alcohol and non-veg within a 14 km radius of the Ram Path.

The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple was inaugurated on January 22, 2024, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing the rituals.
