A powerful earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck Japan’s western Chugoku region on Tuesday morning. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, several strong aftershocks were also felt after the earthquake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the eastern part of Shimane province. The agency said there is no danger of tsunami.

Following the earthquake, West Japan Railways temporarily halted Shinkansen bullet train services between Shin-Osaka and Hakata due to safety concerns.

According to Reuters report, the intensity of the earthquake was so strong that it became difficult to stand or walk without support.

Japan is among the countries most affected by earthquakes in the world. Nearly one-fifth of the world’s earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater occur in Japan.
