Thailand’s Prime Minister Shretha Thavisin has been removed from his post by the Constitutional Court. He was accused of including a lawyer with a criminal record in the cabinet. The court has held Prime Minister Shretha guilty of this move, calling it a violation of ethics.

The bench of 9 judges of the Constitutional Court has given this decision with a majority of 5-4. Former senators had filed a complaint in the court against Prime Minister Shretha. All these senators were appointed by the previous junta government. After this decision, a political crisis has arisen in Thailand.

Earlier last week, the Constitutional Court had dismissed the main opposition Move Forward Party. Along with this, all its leaders were banned for 10 years. The Move Forward Party had won the most seats in last year’s elections.

The ruling coalition led by the Pheu Thai Party will now name a new prime minister. Voting will be held in Thailand’s 500-member parliament to announce the new name.

The court said that Prime Minister Shretha had deliberately included a person with a criminal record in the cabinet. The name of the lawyer who joined the cabinet is Pichit Chuenban, who was convicted in a case in 2008.
