Assault Rifle Telescopic Sight Recovered Near NIA Office In Jammu Amid Heightened Security

Amid heightened security across Jammu province, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday recovered the telescopic sight of an assault rifle from the Sidhra area, close to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in Jammu.

Reports claimed that the device, bearing Chinese markings and typically used as an attachment to assault and sniper rifles, was found in overgrown land located between the NIA office and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Security Headquarters.

The area is also in proximity to the battalion headquarters of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Senior police officials who reached the spot did not comment on the recovery. However, security sources said the find has raised concerns, as such telescopic sights are commonly used by terrorists.

The recovery near multiple high-security installations has heightened apprehensions among security agencies, which are already on alert following intelligence inputs about possible infiltration attempts from across the border, particularly under the cover of fog.

For the past four days, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, have been conducting coordinated search and area domination operations stretching from locations near the international border to mountainous areas along the Line of Control (LoC).

The operations are aimed at ruling out any infiltration.

The intensified searches were launched after intelligence inputs suggested that terror groups could attempt to infiltrate the region amid a spike in militant activity at launch pads across the border, particularly opposite Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Rajouri districts.

Last month, a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer had said that Pakistan had reactivated several terror launch pads across from Jammu province, nearly seven months after many of them were damaged during India’s Operation Sindoor.

According to the officer, around 72 launch pads have become active, including 12 in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the international border and about 60 across the Line of Control.
