The police arrived, the door was broken, then everyone became frightened after seeing the scene in front of them. Model Viveka Babaji was hanging from the fan of the living room. The complexion of the body had faded and breathing had stopped.

Viveka Babaji was a well-known model. She got a lot of recognition after appearing in Kamasutra condom ad, after which she was also seen in the film Yeh Kaisi Mohabbat. She also had her own event management company and was soon going to marry businessman Gautam Vohra. Then what happened suddenly that he committed suicide?

Viveka Babaji was born on 27 May 1973 in Mauritius. His mother was Maharashtrian. Viveka, the youngest among 4 siblings, was inclined towards the glamor world since childhood. At the age of just 20, she won the title of Miss Mauritius and then became a part of Miss World 1993 and Miss Universe 1994.

Viveka had fled from Mauritius to India to escape the scandal.

Viveka Babaji became an award presenter at the Manila Film Festival in 1994. She had announced the name of her friend Rufa Gutierrez instead of the actual Best Actress winner. Actually, Viveka had to announce the Best Actress along with actress Gretchen Barretto and Rufa’s brother Rocky.

Gretchen was about to take the name of the winner after reading the cue card when suddenly Viveka wrongly announced the name of her friend Rufa Gutierrez. Gretchen was shocked when the wrong name was announced.

Meanwhile, Rufa’s brother standing next to him hid the cue card with his hand. Viveka was heard saying to Rocky in the microphone, keep it, keep it. She was a very cheerful and professional girl. Later he also ventured into choreography. I think she took this big step because she was in depression for a long time. In our industry, there is a lot of darkness behind the glamor that is seen from outside, in which many people gradually break down. Something similar probably happened with Viveka also.

According to Rohit, Viveka was in depression, but from a distance Viveka was a happy and successful woman. He had a good hold in the fashion industry. She had walked the ramp for every big fashion designer like Abu Jani, Rohit Bahl, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani.

Due to her success in modeling, she got Kama Sutra condom ad, due to which her acting career also started progressing. While talking about doing a film with Viveka Babaji, actor Deepak Tijori told Dainik Bhaskar, ‘I still remember that director Dinkar Kapoor was looking for a glamorous actress for his film. At that time I had suggested him the name of Viveka Babaji.

‘As glamorous as Viveka looked from outside, she was an equally friendly and good natured girl from inside. At that time she was a struggling model and getting work in the film was a big thing for her. She was a good colleague of mine, but I never took interest in what was going on in her personal life. I was shocked when I got the news of his death. Couldn’t understand how such a lovely girl could do this.

While working in the glamor world, Viveka Babaji met businessman Karthik Jobanputra.

Karthik Jobanputra is a rich businessman from Mumbai.

Both of them got into a relationship in the year 2009. Together they started the event management company Cream Events. However, after living in a live-in relationship for 3-4 months, their fights started increasing and they separated. Viveka also left the company.

In January 2010, he started his company Bivgyor. Apart from Arjun Khanna’s Taj Colaba show, this company also got many shows done. Initially the company was profitable, but then Viveka started incurring losses. At this time Viveka’s closeness with businessman Gautam Vohra started increasing. She had also told her mother about this relationship and said that she would soon marry Gautam. However, after some time there was a rift in their relationship.

On June 16, 2010, Viveka Babaji attended the anniversary party of a magazine, which was held at Rahul Akerkar’s Mahalaxmi restaurant. Viveka danced vigorously in the party and talked a lot with her friends.

Exactly 9 days after this party, Viveka’s body was found in her apartment.

Called mother and sister before death

Viveka’s mother told in an interview that Viveka had called her before her death. Viveka had said that she was going far away. As soon as Viveka said this, he disconnected the call. The mother got worried and called Viveka’s ex-boyfriend Rohit Jugraj and asked him to go to Viveka soon and see if she was okay or not.

Rohit made several calls to Viveka, but Viveka did not answer. Rohit also messaged him, but did not get any reply. After some time, Viveka called her sister and said, I am going to another world, take care of mother.

A few hours later he received the news of his daughter’s death. During police investigation, a note was found near Viveka’s body, in which it was written, ‘You killed me Gautam Vohra’. Mumbai’s Khar police had also recovered sleeping pills from Viveka’s house.

Had a fight with Gautam Vohra just before his death

Neighbors had said in their statement to the police that a few hours before Viveka’s body was found, loud sounds of fighting were coming from their apartment. Investigation revealed that Gautam was in his house at that time.

When Gautam Vohra was called for questioning, he said that he and Viveka were good friends, but were not in a relationship.

However, Viveka’s mother Dayawanti issued a published statement through her spokesperson saying that Viveka had told her that Gautam had proposed marriage to her. Both were about to get married. Once Viveka even got her mother to talk about Gautam. He also said that Gautam wanted Viveka to get a fertility test done before marriage.

Viveka’s family never filed a case against Gautam Vohra, nor raised any suspicion of murder. Because of which he was never taken under investigation. After a long investigation, Gautam Vohra was also given a clean chit from the charge of abetment of suicide.

Gautam also said in his statement to the police that Viveka was in depression after her breakup with her first boyfriend Karthik. However, Viveka’s close friends and fashion designer Rohit Verma always rejected the talk of depression.

In an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar, Rohit said on the angle of depression, ‘No, she was not alone. She had many close friends, one of whom was a famous model like Deandra. He had no shortage of money either. Good income was earned from both modeling and choreography. Just three days before her suicide, she called me and said, “I want to meet you and laugh out loud…” Then the call got disconnected, and that plan never materialized. And talking about drugs, models work so hard to keep themselves fit, why would they take drugs?

Rohit Verma further said, ‘There is a lot of pressure on models in this industry. The competition is so high that people are ready to do anything. Models do not eat food, they get injections to look beautiful. That natural, desi ‘milk-ghee’ body is no longer visible anywhere. I would like to advise all the new people to keep a “Plan B” ready before entering this industry. It is not wise to depend only on this career.
