The fire that broke out in a residential complex in Tai Po district was brought under control after 24 hours.
So far 94 people have died in the fire that broke out on Wednesday in a residential complex in Hong Kong’s ‘Tai Po’ district, while more than 280 are missing. 76 people have been injured in this accident, many of whom are in critical condition. Officials say the number of casualties may increase further.
The government has started a criminal investigation into this accident. The police have also arrested three people including the contractor in the case. It is alleged that he did not use the material as per the rules, due to which the accident occurred.
Construction work was going on in the complex from July 2024. Officials say that the fire spread rapidly due to flammable materials like Styrofoam and the mesh installed outside. Due to this the fire spread in the flats and corridors.

The complex where the fire broke out consisted of eight buildings, each with 35 floors. It had about two thousand apartments.

This was the worst fire in 77 years, which took more than 24 hours to control.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, many people living there suspect that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette.

All public housing projects will be investigated
Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Officer John Lee Ka-chiu has said that all public housing projects will be thoroughly investigated and the cause of the Wang Fuk Court fire will be determined.
Chinese President Xi Jinping also expressed grief over this accident and said that all efforts should be made to help all the people so that the loss is minimized.
Experts said – there are many reasons behind the fire besides bamboo
Bamboo used for repair is being said to be the reason behind the fire that broke out in a 40-year-old building named Wang Fuk Court in Taipo area of Hong Kong.
However, according to experts, bamboo scaffolding was not the only cause of the fire. In fact, the fire spread rapidly due to the plastic net, non-fire-retardant sheets and Styrofoam used in the windows.
Raffaella Andrizzi, an architect at the Chinese University of Hawking, said, “Bamboo has natural moisture, so it does not burn easily. Even if bamboo is dry, it burns much slower than plastic nets and other synthetic materials. Nets and engineering materials seem to be mostly responsible for the Taipo fire.”

After the accident, more than 900 people have been shifted to the community hall.
Fire spread from one building to another
Due to strong wind and burning debris, the flames spread from one building to another. When the fire broke out, many people did not even notice it because the windows were closed due to repairs.
The team that came to extinguish the fire also had to face a lot of problems. The temperature on many floors was so high that firefighters were not able to reach those places. During this time a firefighter also died.
A firefighter also died in the accident
Ho Wai-ho, a firefighter, died in the massive fire in Hong Kong. Ho had been with the Fire Services Department for the past nine years and was posted at Sha Tin Fire Station. He reached the spot at 3:01 pm when the fire broke out and was trying to extinguish the fire on the ground floor. He lost contact with the team after 3:30 pm.
Let’s meet on the ground floor after half an hour at 4 pm. His face was burnt. He was immediately taken to the hospital but the doctor declared him dead.
There was a massive fire in 1948, 176 people were killed
The worst fire ever in Hong Kong occurred on 27 February 1918. This fire broke out in Happy Valley Race Course. After the fire, the grandstand there collapsed and more than 600 people died.
After this, another major fire occurred on 22 September 1948. The fire spread after an explosion at a warehouse at Wing On, located on Des Voix Road West. 176 people died and 69 people were injured in this accident. Both these accidents are still counted among the most painful fire accidents in the history of Hong Kong.

The Happy Valley Racecourse caught fire in 1918. 176 people were killed in this.
Earlier in 1948, there was an explosion in a five-storey warehouse. 176 people were killed in this. After this, in 1962, about 44 people died in a fire in Shui Po area. At the same time, in November 1996, 41 people were killed and 81 were injured in a fire in the Garley Building in Kowloon.
