US President Donald Trump is mulling the removal of Indian-American FBI Director Kash Patel in the coming months. Trump and his top aides grew increasingly uneasy with the string of negative headlines surrounding him.

According to MS NowKash Patel is facing scrutiny for how he is using bureau resources and also for his girlfriend’s security detail and use of a government jet. He also facing flak within the Trump camp for his squabbles with other Trump allies.

The report said that Trump and White House aides have confided to allies that the US President is weighing whether or not to remove Patel.

It also said that Trump is considering top FBI official Andrew Bailey as the bureau’s new director.

The report by MS News said Patel is “on thin ice,” and his exit looks closer than ever, with Andrew Bailey emerging as the most likely replacement but it also pointed out that Trump could still shift course in the weeks ahead.

“President Trump has assembled the most talented and impressive Administration in history and they are doing an excellent job carrying out the President’s agenda. FBI Director Patel is a critical member of the President’s team and he is working tirelessly to restore integrity to the FBI,” the White House told the news outlet when asked about Patel.

Trump publicly commended Patel at the White House on Tuesday when he presided over the annual pardoning of the Thanksgiving turkeys and said that Patel was “very busy doing a great job”.

“I do have confidence in Kash, a lot of confidence, and the DOJ,” Trump told Fox News Channel’s Brian Kilmeade last week.

The report said that US Attorney General Pam Bondi has been growing frustrated with both Patel and Dan Bongino, mainly because Patel has posted on social media at the wrong time and boasted too early about case breakthroughs. Officials worried that those posts could jeopardize investigations.

It also said that Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche have been annoyed by the steady stream of stories about Patel’s questionable use of taxpayer resources.

Those include claims from a self-described whistleblower who said Patel used a government jet for what critics called a “date night” to watch his girlfriend perform in State College, Pennsylvania. The report also said that he assigned elite SWAT team agents to act as a security detail for her.
