Team India is in danger of a clean sweep in home conditions for the second time in 13 months. Last year, New Zealand defeated India in the Test series 3-0. South Africa’s last series win in India was 25 years ago. Shubman Gill will not be able to play due to injury, Rishabh Pant will captain India in his place.

South Africa ahead in head to head

So far 44 Test matches have been played between India and South Africa, India won 16 and South Africa won 19, while 10 matches were drawn. At the same time, India played 20 Tests against South Africa at home, out of which it won 11 and lost 6. At the same time, 3 matches were drawn.

Siraj is India’s top wicket taker

Indian captain Shubhman Gill is the team’s top run scorer in 2025, he has scored 983 runs in 9 matches this year with 5 centuries. However, they will not be able to play today’s match. After him Ravindra Jadeja is the highest run scoring batsman. Whereas Mohammad Siraj is the top bowler of the team with 41 wickets.

Gill out of second test

Gill is out of the second test. BCCI gave this information on Friday. He retired hurt after playing just three balls in the first innings due to neck spasm in the Kolkata Test. After this he was admitted to the hospital. After which he could not participate in the match. In place of Gill, one of Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal or Nitish Reddy may get a chance.

Mulder scored the most runs

Wiaan Mulder has scored the most runs for South Africa in 2025. He also scored a triple century against Zimbabwe. Whereas left arm spinner Keshav Maharaj remains the top bowler of the team with 22 wickets.

The match will start half an hour earlier

The second test will start at 9 o’clock. Usually, Test matches in India start at 9:30, but in the north-eastern regions of India including Guwahati, the sun rises early and not only that, it also sets early. Therefore this match will start soon.

The first session of Guwahati test will be between 9 am to 11 am. After that there will be a tea break of 20 minutes. Then the second session will be played between 11:20 and 1:20. After that there will be a 40 minute lunch break. Then the third session will be played from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Role of pitch and weather is important

The pitch of Barsapara Stadium is considered batting friendly. Here batsmen get more help than bowlers. Although the Test will be played here for the first time, nothing can be said on the pitch. If we look at the T20 and ODI matches at Barsapara Stadium, it can be a balanced pitch. The new ball may provide some help to the fast bowlers in the initial days.

Here the morning moisture and cool breeze can be helpful in generating swing and seam movement. The pitch is likely to dry out as the match progresses. Usually on Indian pitches, spin bowlers start getting turn from the third and fourth day. Something similar can happen in Guwahati also.

This stadium was completed in the year 2012, the first international match was played here in the form of T-20 between India and Australia in 2017. The Indian team has played 4 T-20 International and 2 ODI matches here so far.
