The entertainment industry has seen a worrying rise in sudden deaths linked to cardiac arrest, with names like Shefali Jariwala, Sidharth Shukla and Puneeth Rajkumar that left the fans in shock. The rise in such cases has made many people want to understand heart emergencies better especially the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest.

Recently, content creator Pratham Saxena shared a video that is catching attention online. Known for breaking down health topics in simple ways, he uses a basic kitchen setup to explain how the two conditions are different.

Using A Kitchen Sink To Explain A Heart Attack

Pratham begins by placing a glass in a kitchen sink and calls it the heart. Pointing towards the facet of the kitchen sink, Pratham mentions that it represents the coronary artery which is responsible for the supply of blood to the heart.

He says, “Jab ye line block ho jati hai toh blood dil tak kam pochta hai (When this line gets blocked, less blood reaches the heart).

To make it easier for viewers to understand, he adds that in this situation the heart does continue to beat but it does not get enough oxygen. This is what leads to a heart attack.

“Aap heart beat zaruri kar raha hoga par usme oxygen ki kami ho jati hai (Your heart is still beating, but there is a lack of oxygen),” he says.

Using this simple setup, he shows that a heart attack is mainly caused by blockage in the arteries. He also mentions that a person experiencing a heart attack is usually conscious and may have strong symptoms such as severe chest pain or heavy sweating even while at rest. These signs, according to him, should not be ignored under any circumstances.

Explaining Cardiac Arrest With The Help Of Glasses

To describe cardiac arrest, Pratham places three additional small glasses next to the first one. He says these represent other organs in the body.

He then explains that unlike a heart attack, the problem in cardiac arrest does not come from blocked arteries. Instead, it comes from the failure of the heart’s electrical system.

“Lekin cardiac arrest mein heart ka electrical system fail ho jata hai jaise eska switch off ho gaya ho (But in cardiac arrest, the electrical system of the heart fails as if its switch has turned off),” he says.

Because of this failure, the heart stops beating altogether. With the heart unable to pump blood, the other organs immediately stop receiving supply. This causes the person to collapse almost instantly.

What Should Be Done In Both Emergencies

While explaining the signs of a heart attack, Pratham talks about medicines that may be given if someone around you shows symptoms. These include Ecosprin – helps thin the blood, Rosuvastatin – helps manage cholesterol and Sorbitrate – helps dilate the arteries. He mentions that these are used to support blood flow until medical help arrives.

When discussing cardiac arrest, his focus shifts to immediate action. He says CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) should be started without delay.

“Chest compression should be 100 to 120 per minute,” he explains. He also stresses the importance of calling an ambulance and using a defibrillator to deliver a shock as soon as possible.
