The United States has offered to assist India in investigating the deadly explosion that rocked central Delhi this week, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Indian authorities appear to be managing the probe with exceptional professionalism.
Speaking to reporters in Canada after a meeting of G7 foreign ministers on Wednesday, Rubio said Washington had extended support to New Delhi but praised Indian investigators for handling the situation effectively.
“We’ve offered to help, but I think they’re very capable in these investigations,” Rubio said. “They don’t need our help, and they’re doing a good job.”
The explosion, which killed 12 people and injured dozens near the Red Fort on November 10, has triggered a large-scale investigation by Indian security agencies. Forensic teams and counterterrorism units continue to comb through evidence as officials work to determine the motive and those responsible.
His remarks came amid global expressions of sympathy for the victims and recognition of India’s swift action following the attack.
The US Embassy in New Delhi also issued a statement of solidarity. Ambassador Sergio Gor said in a post on November 11: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were lost in the terrible explosion in New Delhi last night. We wish a swift recovery to those who were injured.”
