What happens on which day in Chhath festival…

First day- Bathing and eating. In which the fast starts with cleaning the house, then bathing and eating vegetarian food.
Second day- The devotees eat food in the evening after fasting throughout the day. It is called Kharna.
Third day- Makes Chhath Prasad. Prasad consists of Thekua, rice laddus and fruits etc. as offerings. In the evening, Arghya soup is prepared in a bamboo basket and Arghya is offered to the setting sun on the banks of a pond or river.
Fourth day- Arghya is offered to the rising sun on Kartik Shukla Saptami. The fasting people again go to the same place where Arghya was offered in the evening.
Why is Chhath festival special…
- There are neither pundits nor mantras in this festival which lasts for 4 days. In this, both the setting and rising sun are saluted.
- Be it poor or rich, advanced or backward, this festival makes us all equal. Everyone sits near the same ghat and pond and offers prayers to the Sun. Then no one is small or big.
- Everyone eats and feeds Prasad to each other without any discrimination. Prasad contains everything which is in season now. Which everyone gets easily. Such as- Thekua, banana, water chestnut, pear, apple, lemon, custard apple, sweet potato, custard apple, radish, ginger and green turmeric plant.
- The faith is such that without speaking, everyone does whatever they get. Someone is sweeping the road and someone is cleaning the ghat. Any painting.

Also know the history of Chhath festival…
According to Skanda Purana, King Priyavrata (son of Manu) had no children. He asked for a boon from Maharishi Kashyap. Due to the sage’s sacrifice, he had a son, but he had no life. Saddened by this, the king and queen started thinking of suicide. Then a goddess appeared.
He said, ‘I am Usha’s elder sister Shashthi Devi, it is my responsibility to protect the children. If you worship me according to my method, you will get the happiness of having children. The king and queen worshiped the goddess and a son was born. After this this puja started.
It is written in Rigveda that worshiping the Sun and its rays purifies both body and mind. The Modi government has taken the initiative to include Chhath in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Bhaskar’s special Chhath song for foreign Biharis

Today is Chhath. Sister was showing on video call, there is a festive atmosphere in the house. Mother is cooking thekua. Aunt is arranging the tour. The songs are echoing. Everyone is busy preparing to go to the ghat. To offer water to the setting sun. Last time I had gone to the ghat on a tour, but this time I could not go home. Everything is being left behind for the sake of livelihood. Mother-father, village-house, farm-barn. Whatever I am earning abroad is being spent on repaying loans and paying EMIs. Read the full news…
