Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza met Bangladesh’s interim government head Mohammad Yunus on Saturday night.

Bangladesh’s interim chief Mohammad Yunus has gifted a controversial map to Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. In this map, the north-eastern states of India are shown as part of Bangladesh. Due to this the controversy has increased.

Pakistan Joint Chiefs Staff Committee Chairman Sahir Shamshed Mirza is the number two officer in the Pakistan Army after Asif Munir. It is believed that after Munir, only Mirza can become the Pakistani army chief.

He met Mohammad Yunus late Saturday night. Yunus gifted a book named ‘Art of Triumph’ to the Pakistani officer. There is a controversy over the map of Bangladesh printed on the cover of this book.

However, India’s Foreign Ministry has not yet given any official response to this controversy.

Pictures made during the 2024 student movement were shown in the book.

Art of Triumph is an art book that features graffiti and other paintings made during the student protests of July-August 2024 in Bangladesh.

It was issued by interim chief advisor Yunus in September last year. At present this book is not available for public sale. Leaders of Bangladesh have been using this book as a gift in the past also. In September 2024, Yunus gifted this book to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau.

Giving this book as a gift is considered a political and diplomatic gesture. According to Dhaka Tribune, this book has so far been gifted to more than 12 foreign leaders and officials.

These include big names like former US President Joe Biden, Italian PM Georgia Meloni, former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Brazilian PM Lula de Silva and former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Yunus gifted this book to the then Canadian PM Justin Trudeau during the UN meeting in 2024.

Yunus, the interim head of the Bangladesh government, presented the book Art of Triumph to Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni in New York on September 25, 2025, during the main session of the United Nations (UNGA).

Mohammad Yunus and Brazilian President Lula da Silva met in Rome, Italy on 13 October 2025. Then Yunus gifted the book to D’Silva.

Pakistani general reached Bangladesh with 6 members

Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza reached Dhaka with a 6-member delegation on 24 October. During the visit, he talked about enhancing defense and security cooperation with top Bangladeshi military and civilian leaders, including Yunus.

During this, both the countries talked about increasing cooperation in many areas like trade, investment and defence. General Mirza said that there are old cultural and historical relations between the two countries. They want to further strengthen these relationships. He also talked about the possibilities of increasing trade and connectivity. General Mirza said that both our countries will help each other.

Yunus’ advisor also posted the wrong map

This is not the first time that such action has been taken by Bangladesh. In December last year, Mahfooz Alam, advisor to Mohammad Yunus, had posted an incorrect map of Bangladesh.

In this map, Mahfooz Alam had shown parts of Bengal, Tripura and Assam of India in Bangladesh. However, after the controversy escalated, this post was deleted.

While posting the map, Mahfooz Alam had written on Facebook – India has adopted the ghetto program. To keep Bangladesh independent from dependence on India, it had to happen after 1975 by 2024. There is a gap of fifty years between the two events, but in reality nothing changed. We are trapped by geography and settlement.

We must remember that in South Asia Pakistan is the land of Ashraf Muslims, India is the land of Brahminical Hindus and Bengal (West Bengal and Bangladesh) is the land of all victims regardless of Hindu Muslim Dalits.

Bangladesh is the starting point, not the end point. From 1947 to 1971 and from 1971 to 2024 it is not over, history is still waiting.

Bangladesh increasing relations with Pakistan

There has been continuous tension in the relations between India and Bangladesh since the coup of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Whereas relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have continuously improved. Mohammad Yunus has met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif twice in the last one year.

In November 2024, a Pakistani cargo ship reached Chittagong port for the first time since 1971. Apart from this, in April this year, the foreign secretaries of both the countries met in Dhaka after 15 years.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also visited Dhaka on 27–28 April, the first high-level visit since 2012. During this, both the countries had discussed agreements to increase mutual cooperation.
