An Indian nurse working at a premium hospital in Singapore has been sentenced to one year and two months in jail and two lashes for molesting a male visitor.

A 34-year-old nurse named Alipay Siwa Nagu had committed this act with a male visitor at Raffles Hospital in June. He confessed his crime in the court.

The victim had gone to the hospital on North Bridge Road to meet his grandfather on June 18. At around 7:30 in the evening, when he went to the toilet meant for patients, nurse Alipay started peeping there.

He told the victim that he wanted to disinfect her and on this pretext he applied soap on his hand and molested her.

The victim was in shock at that time and could not say anything due to fear. Later he returned to his grandfather. The case was registered on June 21 and the accused was arrested two days later.

After a hearing on Friday, the court sentenced Alipay to one year and two months in jail and two lashes. The hospital management had suspended him from his job after the incident.

Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit passes away, breathed her last at the age of 93

Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit died on Friday. She was 93 years old. According to the Royal Household Bureau, Sirikit breathed his last in a hospital in Bangkok.

He was suffering from blood infection since October 17 and despite treatment, his condition did not improve. Her health was not well for the last few years and she was away from public life. Her husband, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, died in October 2016.

He initiated several projects to help the rural poor, promote traditional handicrafts and protect the environment.

On his 88th birthday, his son, King Maha Vajiralongkorn, and other royal members visited him in the hospital. Her birthday, 12 August, is celebrated as Mother’s Day across the country.

Sirikit Kitiyakara was born on 12 August 1932 into a prosperous aristocratic family in Bangkok. Both of his parents were related to former kings of Thailand’s present-day Chakri dynasty.

After World War II, she moved with her father to France, where her father was ambassador. It was there that he met King Bhumibol at the age of 16.

After the king was injured in a road accident, she went to Switzerland to take care of him. There, love blossomed between the two. Both of them got married in 1950.

She founded the SUPPORT Foundation in 1976, which trained poor families in traditional arts such as silk weaving, jewelry making, painting and pottery. Due to her work in the field of environment, she was also called the Green Queen.
