Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov said in a press briefing during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sunday, “The Indian PM and Foreign Minister have clearly said that India chooses its allies.”

Lavarov said this in response to the American tariff on India’s purchasing oil from Russia. He said, ‘There is no threat to the economic partnership of India-Russia. Our relationship is completely safe. ‘

Lavarov further said, ‘If the US has ways to increase bilateral trade with India, then they are ready to discuss the conditions, no matter what the US has some conditions. But when it comes to trade, investment, economic, safety, technology and other relations between India and any third countries, India only discusses it with those countries.

Lavrov said- We respect India’s foreign policy fully

Lavrov, while emphasizing the strategic relations of India-Russia, said-

Lavrov said- India-Russia close aide country

Lavarov mentioned the meeting of PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the recently held SCO summit in China. He said that there is close support between the two countries on international forums.

He also said that President Putin’s visit to India is planned in December. During this period, bilateral cooperation will be discussed in business, military, technical cooperation, finance, health, high-technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and other areas.

Lavarov said, ‘Our bilateral agenda is very widespread. We work together on SCO, BRICS and other forums. ‘

Russia supported India’s permanent membership in UNSC

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov supported India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He said in UNGA on Saturday that Russia wants India and Brazil get permanent seats in UNSC.

He also emphasized the importance of groups like Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS. He said that BRICS is a great way to work together for the interests of developing countries of the world (Global South).

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met Putin

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov in Moscow on 21 August. After this, he said in a joint press conference that India is not the biggest buyer of Russian oil, but is China.

Jaishankar had said- ‘European Union (EU) is at the forefront of purchasing LNG (natural gas) from Russia. At the same time, some southern countries are ahead of India in increasing trade with Russia after 2022. Nevertheless, India is beyond comprehension high tariff. Jaishankar also met Russian President Putin.

Jaishankar justified the purchase of Russia oil based on India’s needs. He had said that India and Russia’s relationship has been one of the most stable relations in the world after the second world war.

The two countries agreed to increase the import of agriculture, medicine and clothes to Russia from India to balance trade.

Jaishankar said that India and Russia will work to remove non-tariff problems in trade and resolve regulations problems soon. This will increase India’s import and reduce trade deficit (trade imbalance).

50% American tariff on India

US President Trump has put 25% of additional tariffs on India due to buying Russian oil. Currently, India has a total of 50 % American tariffs.
