Actress Muskan Verma left the small town of Roorkee and made her mark in Mumbai. Music-learning Muskaan’s dream of acting was awakened by her mother, who herself wanted to become an actress. In the initial days, he had to face struggle, rejection and taunts from people, but he did not give up. Binny’s character in the web series ‘Inspector Avinash’ gave him a new identity. While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Muskaan shared memories related to her struggle, casting couch, family support, experience of working with Randeep Hooda and the emotional cremation scene. Question: Your journey has been very beautiful. It is not easy to reach Mumbai from a city like Roorkee. When did you first dream of acting? Answer: To be honest, this was my mother’s dream. She herself wanted to become an actress, but at that time girls got married early. His dream remained unfulfilled. Gradually the same dream started coming inside me. Since childhood, my mother used to dress me like a heroine by applying two ribbons, kajal and lipstick. People used to say that the way this girl prepares, she will definitely go into films. Question: That means, somewhere, mother had instilled that dream in you? Answer: Absolutely. Then I did a six-year course in music. My mother used to say that you should go to Mumbai and try. After that, my parents gave me one or two years to go and try. Question: When you had limited time away from home, how did you get the first opportunity after coming to Mumbai? Answer: I came to Mumbai a little before Covid and soon I got a TVC ad. Then I felt that maybe I was going in the right direction. During Covid, Papa had said to come back now, because at that time many people were leaving Mumbai. But then I found ‘Inspector Avinash’. Question: How did you start in Mumbai? Where did you stay for the first time? Answer: Initially I stayed in New MHADA. Accommodation arrangements were made through relatives. Slowly started giving auditions, kept meeting people and understanding the industry. Question: It is not easy for people coming from a small town to understand Mumbai. How did you learn? Answer: I kept going to auditions and meeting people. Then became friends. Someone told that one has to give such auditions and meet such casting directors. Later I also got involved in meditation and Brahma Kumari. I think everything happened by the grace of Lord Krishna. Question: You studied music. So was your dream to become a singer or an actress? Answer: Initially my dream was to sing. My voice was praised. But gradually the inclination towards acting increased. To be honest, I have not practiced for a long time. I have been so busy with acting that music has been left a little behind. But if I ever get a chance in future, I would definitely like to sing in one of my films or projects. Question: When did you realize that you wanted to do acting? Answer: When mom slept during the day, I used to dance on Madhuri Dixit’s songs wearing a saree. Maybe it all started from there. Question: What do parents do and who got the most support in the family? Answer: My father is a journalist and mother is a teacher. I got the most support from my mother. Papa was a little strict. Mom made us take music classes secretly from him. They were afraid that my dreams might come to an end. Question: How difficult was the struggle in Mumbai? Answer: It was very difficult. Both good and bad people were found here. Had to listen to things like compromise. But I left many such projects. I felt that success should not be sought through the wrong path. Question: How did you handle the financial situation during that time? Answer: I worked here for about a year. Used to work in an office. I did not ask for much money from home because I was afraid that my father would call me back. Question: There are many misconceptions in small towns about the film industry. Did this happen with you too? Answer: Yes, enough. People said that I don’t know what she would be doing after going to Mumbai. But I never replied. I thought that one day my work will answer for me. Today the same people praise me after seeing me on TV. Question: What was the first big opportunity you got in acting? Answer: I first played the role of Chitralekha in Star Bharat’s show ‘Radha Krishna’. Gave her audition and forgot. Got a call at 12:30 in the night that we had to leave for the shoot at 6 in the morning. Question: How much profit did you get from that show? Answer: Got to learn a lot, but I always felt that I was not made for TV serials. I wanted to do something different. Question: Did you ever feel that maybe this industry is not for you? Answer: Yes. I was a finalist in a big show, but was replaced the night before the shoot. I went into depression. Felt that maybe I was not talented. But later I realized that perhaps God had planned something bigger for me. Question: Then how did you get the opportunity to work in ‘Inspector Avinash’? Answer: A casting director called me and asked me to meet a director. I was not taking it seriously at that time. He called four-five times, then I went to meet him. There I met director Neeraj Pathak and I got the role of Binny. Question: Reached such a big set for the first time. How was the experience? Answer: Very nice. I never felt like I was working for the first time. Neeraj Pathak Sir was so supportive that he explained everything lovingly. He gets excellent acting out of any actor. Question: How was the first scene with Randeep Hooda? Answer: Very good. He never made me feel like a junior. A brother-sister like relationship was formed between us. The first scene was the one in which my character tops the college and the entire STF family comes home. Question: Your character appeared stronger in the second season. Tell me about that? Answer: It is shown that daughters are no less than sons. There is an emotional scene where my character has to offer funeral pyre to his father. People liked that scene very much. Question: What did you feel while doing that scene? Answer: At that time I really thought that the person lying in front of me was my real father. I became so emotional that it took time to control myself after the scene was over. Question: How do you prepare for acting? Answer: I do deep workshops. My trainers teach that there should be complete honesty while doing scenes. That relationship should seem true at that moment. If the person in front of me is my brother or father, then at that time I really feel the same. Question: What was the most beautiful compliment you received after this series?
