The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Wednesday approved the extension of the tenure of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan up to May 30, 2026.
“Government has approved the extension of service of General Anil Chauhan as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) & Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, upto 30th May 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the Ministry of Defence said on X.

CNN-News18 had earlier reported that the government was likely to extend General Anil Chauhan’s tenure till he turns 65 years old, which is the maximum permissible age for the post under the service rules.
