At least two people died in Kolkata as heavy overnight rain caused waterlogging and traffic disruption. Metro services were suspended, and more rainfall is expected in the city.

At least two people died as heavy rain lashed Kolkata since late last night, causing heavy waterlogging on streets and outside homes in various localities on Tuesday.
According to the Kolkata Police, one of the deceased was identified as 60-year-old Jitendra Singh, who got electrocuted at Hossain Shah Road at nearly 5.15 am today.
He was rushed to the SSKM Hospital, but was declared dead there.
The identity of the second deceased was not immediately known.
HEAVY RAIN PARALYSES KOLKATA
Kolkata and its surrounding areas received very heavy overnight rain, which led to the inundation of many areas on Tuesday.
Water entered many houses and residential complexes in the city as roads went underwater, also causing traffic chaos.
The city is bracing for more downpour as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a low-pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rain in several south Bengal districts.

In the wake of heavy overnight rainfall, significant waterlogging was reported in the mid-section of the Blue Line (Dakshineswar–Shahid Khudiram), particularly between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Rabindra Sarabar stations, prompting the immediate suspension of services on this stretch.
News agency PTI quoted a spokesperson for Metro Railway Kolkata as saying that the decision to halt operations between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan stations was taken in the interest of public safety, as ensuring secure travel remains the top priority.
