As many as five people lost their lives and more than 20 others were injured after a speeding truck crashed into a Ganesh festival procession in Hassan district, Karnataka, on Friday night.
The tragic accident took place at Mosale Hosahalli village, along the Hassan-Holenarasipur Road, while a large group of people were taking part in a procession for Ganesh idol immersion.
According to initial reports, a canter truck lost control and rammed into the crowd, causing chaos and panic at the scene. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Soon after the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to X to share details about the incident.
“It is deeply saddening to learn news of several people losing their lives and over 20 others seriously injured when a lorry collided with a procession heading for Ganesh immersion in Hassan,” Karnataka CM wrote.
