A chilling CCTV video from a nearby house has captured the exact moment a massive blast tore through the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar on Friday, leaving the building destroyed and causing at least nine casualties.
The footage shows a sudden, powerful flash as the explosion ripped through the police station premises, followed by flames shooting into the air, visually confirming the scale of the detonation that was heard several kilometres away.
According to sources, the explosion occurred while the FSL team, the Tehsildar, and police personnel were handling and checking explosive material kept inside the station.
This material had been recovered during the ongoing investigation into a busted terrorist module linked to the November 10 Delhi car blast.
The CCTV visuals emerged as officials confirmed that 8 injured policemen were rushed for medical attention immediately after the blast, with two bodies, including that of an inspector-rank officer, later pulled out from the rubble.
More injured personnel continued to be moved from the site as fire and debris engulfed the area.
The police station was completely destroyed in the explosion, with vehicles inside reduced to mangled remains and nearby houses suffering damage.
Sources indicated that a team from the SIA and other officials were present at the site, working on seized explosive material, when the massive detonation occurred.
The blast coincided with ongoing operations that had already uncovered nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives and bomb-making equipment across multiple locations connected to the same module.
